About LINCAD

At the forefront of lithium-ion battery technology, Lincad designs and manufactures bespoke batteries and charging systems for military applications ranging in size from man-portable equipment to artillery pointing systems and robotic vehicles. A UK-based company, established for over 30 years, Lincad continues to take product performance to new limits with the development of lighter, more energetic and powerful batteries and faster, more flexible charging solutions.

Working in accordance with both UK Defence Standards and US Military Standards, Lincad has particular expertise in developing ruggedised products with high environmental and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance. Whilst most products contain high energy density lithium-ion technology, Lincad employs the most suitable electrochemistry for each customer requirement.

Lincad’s main customers are the UK MOD and defence prime contractors such as Leonardo, BAE Systems, Thales and Northrop Grumman. Lincad also supplies directly and indirectly to a number of armed forces around the world. Lincad is a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, demonstrating its support for military personnel and their families.

Representing 20 years of evolution in battery technology and design, Lincad’s current range of LIPS (lithium-ion power system) batteries are the result of continued improvements in specific energy through the integration of new cell technology and enhanced mechanical and electronic design. The LIPS 15, the latest battery in the LIPS range, offers approximately three times the specific energy of the original version, produced in 2000, allowing a soldier to carry fewer batteries to complete a mission.

A similar pattern of development can be seen in Lincad’s range of battery chargers. The Four Channel Caravel Mk2 offers enhanced, multi-chemistry charging of batteries from any original equipment manufacturer, making it possible to bring an entire battery fleet under the management umbrella of a single charging unit. It has also been designed with a transport mode to enable lithium-ion batteries to be discharged to less than 30% of their full charge for transport by cargo aircraft, in compliance with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Regulations.

Lincad has also recently developed the Armada, a 6-channel battery conditioning system, for that primary purpose. It provides those involved in the logistics of shipping lithium-ion batteries by cargo aircraft a simple means to prepare a fleet of batteries before departure and return them to the appropriate state of charge on arrival.

Whist still very much focused on the defence and security sectors, Lincad’s technology transverses sector boundaries. Its latest development is a multi-channel charger for batteries used in point of sale devices for the airline industry. Wherever there is a need for a power management solution, Lincad is on hand to offer its expertise.

A privately owned UK company based in Surrey in the South East of England, Lincad is ISO 9001:2015 accredited with expertise in battery electrochemistry, systems, hardware and software engineering, and holds TickITplus accreditation, demonstrating its excellence in IT and software development. It also holds Cyber Essentials Plus certification as a recognition of its cybersecurity measures. Design and manufacture of all products takes place on-site. Lincad also offers a full life cycle product support service, including repairs and upgrades, from the point of introduction into service through to disposal at the end of a product’s lifetime. It has the facilities and the skilled personnel to provide a storage and maintenance service for batteries of any chemistry. With its own DGSA (Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor), other staff trained in the transport of lithium and lithium-ion batteries and qualified ADR (Accord Dangereux Routier) drivers, Lincad has the expertise to deal with all regulatory aspects of packaging and delivery around the world.

Lincad’s reputation as a leader in battery technology has been established by working closely with its customers to ensure that they receive the optimum solution for their system requirements, as well as with key suppliers, particularly the major global cell manufacturers. From product inception to product completion to product support, Lincad has consistently demonstrated the innovation and the high-quality service that its customers expect from a recognised British supplier.
